Engine choice was simple - this EA71 conversion costs complete $1750 only and is very well done - exact machining, all Alu parts are anodized, and I supposed that it should be easy to install the prerotator on it.

This conversions are built in Vladivostok, Russia, by Serge Vinogradov. He also built other Subaru conversions - up to 215 hp turbo.

To be sure that the engine fits this airframe we made the wooden full-sized airframe mockup and installed the engine on it.

I bought two EA71 engines from this source, built the simple engine jig and tested the engine prior the installation. Both run well, so I built the engine mount (stainless steel tubes were used) and the engine installation was easy.

The prop is 181 cm 3-blade ground-adjustable composite "Kievprop". It's produced in Ukraine, seems to be well done and costs $350.

Surprisingly we even had no problem making the prerotator installation - it fitted well both to prop and gearbox - I simply slightly machined the driven wheel centre hole and built (also machined) two support details to mount the prerotator pump to the engine gearbox:

Well, the aircraft was now almost ready for testruns.

All this took us one month only.

Next page - first rolls.
