So, the kit came complete less engine - there was even Australian 3-blade composite
prop and EIS and Hirth F-30 motor mount. I cannot use these items since the prop didn't
fit my engine, the EIS was for 2-stroke aircooled Hirth and you can guess why I didn't use
the engine mount.
Some of
you surely mention Alex Vankov standing in centre. Alex awared me that this kit may have
big problems with parts quality so all the parts were twice carefully inspected including
metal analysys for some details. To be true I didn't find much negative and most of the
parts fitted very well to each other. Anyway these are the questionable things:
- the slider wasn't pressed into block. I suppose that it should be glued into block
but I haven't exact instruction to the moment so I simply replaced the rotorhead with
another one we machined ourselves. This one hasn't the slider so I hope to estimate what
is the difference.
- the brakes (they are hydraulic) bowdens weren't of proper lenghts so I changed them.
- back seat lower support plate is too weak to carry 80 kg man + 30 kg of
fuel - it's simply should have some vertical forms to my mind. It's serious
thing since if it bends down in flight, then the lowering seat can block the
control fork. Changed for the proper structure.
- the vertical control rods. They are of carbonfiber which seems to be,.. say, slightly
strange. I preferred to change them to common Alu ones.
- the tall tail has a crack in its central cross section which was fixed by putting the thin
stainless clamp on it which will keep the parts together and won't let the crack to
enlarge. It was of no sense to try to glue the crack itself. The tail itself is light and
- I hope strong enough.
- trim spring doesn't hit the cluster if the rotorhead is installed in full
forward holes on cluster only. Since the rotorhead was moved aft due to heavy engine, I
was to make new detail which attached the spring to the torque bar
- same reason caused me to throw out the rotor brake whose shape makes it unusable if
only the rotorhead is not in the forward position on the cluster (well, on the cheek
plates)
- and there were some bolts which were too short - no thread out. Hope fully I had some
purchased from Wicks - it's a real pain to have deal with these inch-sized things here in
Russia
So these were the things I've found out assembling the parts together. The most
interesting question was how easy it will be to install our EA71 - I hoped that I don't
need to change the airframe.
