Autogyros in Russia: News and Events
On Oct.,16,2002 Victor Shumeiko 3-seat autogyro named "Hunter" made it's first flights with 3 full-scale men on board. Some photos can be seen here. More comments to come.
This summer gives us the first results of growing interest to gyroplanes in modern Russia. There are dozens of different groups and individuals who is building autogyros. Some build them for own pleasure, some - for commercial purposes.
Three new models were already test-flown this summer.
M-91 "Profile" by Yuri Shevchenko made it's first flight in June ( more photos). This 2-seat side-by-side gyro is powered with 105 hp Subaru autoconversion made in Kharkov. 178 cm 3-blade wooden ground adjustable is from Kharkov too. The aircraft has hydraulic brakes, steering nose wheel, eletric prerotator and - the most interesting - it has folding mast of original design. Yuri used Dragon Wings rotor and he has built his own rotorhead which is the metric copy of Ernie Boyette's.
Also in June we've seen the first flights of 3-place autogyro by Victor Shumeiko and AeroAstra Inc. This aircraft has a number of features such as V-tail, torsion main landing gear, special mast design which make 2-per revs vibrations unbelievably low at the airframe. Some features are now being patented. First flights were done with 28' Dragon Wings rotor though this aircraft will be tested with three different 30' rotors (SportCopter, Aircraft Design Inc. and RAF).
Powerplant would be 210 hp Subaru autoconversion though first flights were with 130-hp EJ-22 engine.
Next is The Doominator by TwistAirClub This aircraft was assembled from Taiwan-made kit which was seriously refabricated including Subaru EA71 installation. More details and photos on this aircraft. TwistAirClub is now working on new model for agricultural use.
We're also waiting for more completions this summer.
